Leaving St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador

Passport information

A valid passport is essential to international travel. Also, there should be at least 6 months left on the expiration date of your passport after the date that you are to arrive in Europe. If there is less than 6 months, it is suggested that you renew your passport before travelling.

The passport office in St. John’s is located in the TD Building, Suite 802, 140 Water Street. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

MCP forms and information

Students going out of province/country should inform MCP that they will be away for the period of the exchange and to request coverage in the event that they need it.

Beneficiaries leaving for study purposes may receive an Out-of-Province Coverage Certificate for up to twelve months' coverage. Approval is conditional upon the beneficiary's intention to return to Newfoundland and Labrador upon completion of the program of study.

Students will need to provide a letter from their educational institution confirming that they are enrolled as full time students.

Registration of Canadians Abroad

The Registration of Canadians Abroad service offers a consular registration service to Canadians living or travelling abroad. The service notifies registered Canadians in the event of a natural disaster or civil unrest in the country in which they are travelling.
